Those who are even remotely
concerned with the corrugating industry often face certain
problems while dealing with these machines. And although
they may not realise it, the solutions to these vexing
troubles often lie in the simplest of measures.
This handbook is the result of painstaking effort by
Sumit Nagpal (presently heading the Nagpal Group) to
understand and eliminate some of these irritants. Having
carefully compiled matter taken from various sources,
the author has succeeded in presenting a ready guide
for manufacturers and end-users of corrugating machines
alike. The common problems that one encounters while
operating corrugating machines are set down in simple
and easy-to understand terms along with their solutions.
A small section touches upon the area of printing as
well. The present booklet effectively drives away most
of the cobwebs associated with the corrugating machines.
The Nagpal Group is one of the leading manufacturers
of paper corrugated board box and printing machinery
in the country. In business for over forty years, it
caters to both domestic as well as international markets
such as Africa, UAE, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and
Bhutan among others.
With the 21st century just round the corner and an evergrowing
need for sophisticated packaging, the future of corrugated
packaging can best be described as bright, and the use
of corrugated packaging in the environs of the next
century can only be termed phenomenal.
Keeping this in mind, the company has launched, after
extensive research and experimentation, an aU new, hi-tech
product line that includes 5-ply automotive board making
plant, fingerless corrugating machine with double profile,
shaftless mill roll stand, flexo printer sloter, rotary
die cutter, folder gluer and other allied machinery.
Having established a manufacturing lead, the company
is way ahead of its competitors and plans to stay that
way for years to come. The Nagpal Group which was established
by Mr Madon Lal Nagpal is presently going from strength
to strength under the able guidance of his son Mr Bharat
Kumar Nagpal and his grandson - the author of this extremely
useful guide. The author has established himself as
a packaging technologist by way of undertaking training
in the field of packaging from Indian Institute of Packaging
which is a national body in the of field of packaging
technology. The author is extremely grateful to Mr N.
C. Saha, who is presently (Joint Director) in Indian
Institute of Packaging-New Delhi for his constant guidance
& help to bring out this useful publication.
The company takes deep interest in all affairs of its
clients and customers lending a keen ear to their problem
areas and growth prospects for future decades. This
offering is one attempt in that direction by the young
leader of The Nagpal Group. It is hoped that it will
meet the expectations of all readers.

The
advent of the indigenous corrugated board/box manufacturing
machinery and conversion industry has provided the much
needed fillip to the country as a large majority of
package user sectors were largely dependent on wood
and wood based packages. Not only this has been causing
a depletion of forest resources but also was creating
environmental imbalances. The corrugated board/box conversion
units being spread far and wide in the country could
cater to the industry needs, thus overcoming any logistics
constraints.
Over the years the corrugated industry has enhanced
their technical capabilities and today the buyer-seller
segments are graduated to interact fairly on a technical
ground. A sense of quality and value has taken root,
which needs to be nourished further so as to make the
industry march forward. An internationally acceptable
confidence limit and quality standards are the need
of the day.
The contribution of the machinery-manufacturing segment
is also noteworthy and commendable. That the indigenously
produced conversion machinery has a world wide demand
speaks eloquently.
The close association and understanding of the machinery
manufacturing, board and box conversion and user sector
are the single largest contributory factor for the pace
of the growth witnessed.
Quality and quality consistency will be the driving
force in the days to come and will also be the credibility
quotient. This is best achieved by understanding the
machinery operating factors and raw materials. A diagnosis
of the 'why and how' and 'what to do' helps to overcome
most problems, find remedial measures and streamline
the man machine-material towards productivity, consistency
and quality.
This handbook, narrated and illustrated in a simplistic
manner, is conceptualised against this background and
is useful to all from the shop floor to the decision
makers, and thus derives the value.
The Indian Institute of Packaging feels proud as the
author of the Handbook is one of its own alumni having
completed the certificate programme.
